Not all hair is created equal, but if you have fine, thin hair then this post is for you! I am sharing my hair care routine, who does my hair & more.
Happy Wednesday y’all! I hope everyone’s week is going well! I’ve been feeling slightly under the weather, but that didn’t keep me from missing my haircut this week. I got a little trim from my girl Morgan at Cha Cha’s, and it got me inspired to share some hair care with y’all today! Keep reading to see what Morgan has done to my hair over the past few months, products I use & more!
My hair:
Before I share my hair tips & tricks with y’all, I need to give y’all the down low on my hair. I have fine, thin, oily hair. Not the most ideal combo, let me tell ya. But when it comes to hair, you always want what you can’t have, am I right?! After years of wanting a different hair type, I’ve decided to embrace what I’m workin’ with thanks to some life changing products & a great hair stylist.
Where I Get My Hair Done in Lexington:
Morgan at Cha Cha’s is my girl! She was recommended to me on this post, and I’ve been so pleased with my locks since I started going there last August. She’s colored my hair twice & trimmed it several times in between. On the left, is the balayage she did for me last August. I loved going the balayage route because it was low maintenance. While I am high maintenance in other aspects of life, hair coloring is not one of them. Albeit, a few grey hairs are poking through, so I might have to change that… But anyways!
Next up, the darker look on the right. I loved the lighter balayage, but with the winter I was looking to go a little darker. Morgan delivered again with these low lights at the beginning of December. The upkeep with this color is also low maintenance, which I love! Mainly because it is pretty close to my natural hair color. To keep the color fresh, I’ll go see Morgan for a gloss in a few months. Easy peasy, I tell ya!
Other than the color, I typically try to get a trim every 8-10 weeks. I love that fresh cut feeling, plus anything longer than that and my ends get dry & dead, which is not a good look.
If you’re not local, my tip to find a great hair stylist. Ask around. Utilize social media. Those resources will be your best bet! One look at Morgan & Cha Cha’s social media channels & I was sold! If you are local and are on the hunt for a hair stylist, Morgan is your girl!
*I did receive a free color treatment in exchange for my post. All opinions are 100% my own.
My Go To Hair Care Products:
L’Oreal Volumizing Shampoo & Conditioner:
I’ve never been one to splurge on shampoo & conditioner. These two products get the job done just fine & don’t cost an arm & a leg.
L’Oreal Hair Oil Serum:
I noticed after getting my balayage done, the lighter color was making my ends drier & drier which I wasn’t used to. To help with the dryness, I distribute this oil through my ends on my wet hair after I get out of the shower.
Pureology Root Lift:
I don’t use this product on a daily basis, but if I am looking for a nice lift at the roots, then this is my go to product! It is the only mouse type product that I actually feel like I can see results from.
Batiste Dry Shampoo for Brunettes:
Because my hair gets super oily, I wash it around 5-6 times a week. I know, people say it’s bad for your hair, washing it less with help with the oil, blah, blah, blah. I just have a hard time reviving sweaty hair from working out, bed head, etc. But if I need to freshen my hair up for whatever reason, this is my favorite dry shampoo. I always struggled finding one that didn’t leave a white cast on my brown hair, and because this one is tinted it definitely doesn’t have that problem.
How I Add Volume & Texture to Fine Hair:
DryBar’s Triple Sec:
I honestly thought there was no hope to give my hair some texture, volume & life. I’ve tried so many texturizing sprays, cheap & expensive, and nothing even compares to this product. I cannot live without it. The way I use this– after I curl my hair, I section my hair off and spray this on the roots & up the strands. Really everywhere. Tease throughout & it works miracles.
John Frieda’s Volumizing Hair Spray:
I received this in a press package, and honestly didn’t think much of it. I set it off to the side because it had volumizing in the title. I couldn’t find my hairspray one day, so I grabbed the can of this and haven’t stopped using it since. I am not sure how a hair spray helps add volume to your hair, but it does! And it holds my curl and it doesn’t weigh down my hair. This is a hair holy grail product for sure!
What I Use to Curl My Hair:
Hot Tools 1 inch Curling Iron:
Nothing fancy, just give me a 1 inch curling iron. I’ve never been able to get a handle on using a wand, and any bigger of a barrel & my hair does not hold the curl. This budget friendly curling iron does the trick every time!
And that’s a wrap y’all! I will be sharing an updated hair tutorial video featuring these products in action very, very soon! Stay tuned!

I had no idea you had fine, oily hair- you style it so well! I’m in the same boat and it’s horrible- I know I shouldn’t wash my hair so frequently but if I had “4 or 5 day hair” I would look like an oil slick! I have a sample of the Triple Sec and need to go ahead and try it.. and thanks for sharing the hairspray too!

Omg thank you for sharing! I have very thin, fine hair, pin-straight hair 😫. I wash mine every night and sometimes in the morning because if I go more than 12 hours, it becomes so greasy! It never holds a curl or color for long but I’m excited to try your routine. I’m so desperate for hair help, I’ll legit try anything.. I’ve even cut 8 inches off because I pretty much gave up.

I think this post may have been written just for me! I have thin, fine, oily hair as well and always struggle finding the right products and routine. I think the most challenging thing is that I color my hair dark red – and while I’m naturally auburn, it still just fades quickly if I don’t use high-end products. And I certainly can’t use many dry shampoos because even ones geared for brunettes look hilarious at my roots! I gotta check out some of the things you suggested though! Glad I’m not the only one who keeps to a normal wash schedule (5-6 a week haha)!
