Take a look inside my must have makeup bag today with a step by step breakdown of my makeup routine, my go to products & more!
Makeup Bag / Turtleneck / Jeans / Rug
Happy Thursday y’all! After asking for post suggestions on Instagram Stories on Monday, I received several beauty routine posts suggestions. Ask & y’all shall receive. In this post I’ll be breaking down what products are currently in my makeup bag, a step by step guide to how I do my makeup & more.
First off, I have been on the hunt for a makeup bag that fits ALL of my products for travel. I used to carry all my brushes in one bag, my palettes in another & everything else in another one. It was just too much to keep up with when on the go. While I originally wanted a hard case option, after stumbling upon this carryall, I was sold! It has room for EVERYTHING I need, it’s affordable & I love the print. It also comes in a handful of other patterns if the one I have isn’t your thing.
Second, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m kind of an all or nothing kind of gal when it comes to makeup. I’ll either opt for my 15 step process (which doesn’t take long, I promise!) or only mascara. I’ve never found a happy medium, and that’s perfectly okay with me because I LOVE doing my makeup. It’s like my happy place. Just keep that in mind when I share my 15 steps. If a full face of makeup isn’t your thing or you don’t have a ton of time, you could absolutely cut down on the steps!
Keep reading for my current makeup favs & my step by step process.
Step 1: Primer
- CoverFx Mattifying Primer & Anti-Acne Treatment: This primer isn’t like most matte primers I’ve tried. This one doesn’t skip on the skin, it goes on so smooth. It really helps keep those oils at bay. Which is my MO y’all.
Step 2: Foundation
- Dior Forever Foundation in ‘021 Linen’: This is a newer to me foundation. I picked it up during this sale and have never been so pleased with a beauty product purchase. It gives you medium to full coverage, and is truly long wearing. This foundation has the best matte-not flat finish too. Plus it feels totally light weight on the skin! The shade Linen is a bit dark for me during the winter, but it’s nothing a little self tanner can’t fix. I apply this foundation with a damp beauty sponge.
- Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum: This was a recent repurchase for me, but I used to use this product a few years back. I stopped using it a few summers ago because there is only one color option (ridiculous, I know). I apply this product with my fingers and I typically use this foundation serum during the week (when I don’t need the full coverage) or when I’m having a good skin day. I will say, at first application, this serum doesn’t seem like anything special, but once you top it lightly with this powder it gives the prettiest coverage & finish.
Step 3: Concealer
- Tarte Shape Tape in ‘Light Neutral’: This concealer is all over the internet & for good reason. It’s hands down the best concealer I’ve ever used. It covers like no other, it doesn’t crease & lasts all day. You won’t find me without this in my makeup bag. If I’m in a hurry or want a lighter makeup look, I’ll just apply with my fingers. If I want more coverage I’ll apply with a damp beauty sponge. And if my dark circles rear their ugly head I’ll put this color corrector on before adding the shape tape.
Step 4: Under Eye Powder
- Tarte Park Ave Princess Contour & Bronzing Palette: I’ll set my Shape Tape Concealer with the ‘Halo’ shade in this palette & it is perfection. It’s brightening & works so well with the concealer.
Step 5: Setting Powder
- Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder: My oily skin holy grail powder. I love this powder so much, and chances are if you’ve read one of my beauty posts in the post, this powder is included! I set my foundation with this powder and it really keeps my skin nearly oil free & helps my foundation last all day long.
- NARS All Day Luminous Foundation in ‘Vallauris’: Like I mentioned before, I use this powder foundation when wearing this foundation serum. The two work so well together! But I also carry this compact in my purse when I’m out & about. Because it is technically a powder foundation, it’s perfect for touch ups!
Step 6: Bronzer & Contour
- Hourglass Bronzer in ‘Luminous Bronze Light’: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. This is another product that I’ve been using for years, and I just keep coming back to it because it is that good. It gives me the best all over glow, regardless of season. I love that I can use it when I am super pale & when I’m all bronzed up.
- Too Faced Bronzer in ‘Sweet Tea’: I’ve had this in my collection for a while & just pulled it back out recently. Some days I love it, others not so much. But it’s currently in my makeup bag, so I figured it was worth the share 😉
- Tarte Park Ave Princess Contour & Bronzing Palette: When I am looking to add a little contour, I’ve been reaching for this palette. I’ve been gravitating towards the shade ‘princess cut’.
Step 7: Blush
- Charlotte Tilbury Blush in ‘First Love’: Blush might be my favorite part of doing my makeup. I love a good flush to the cheeks y’all! My mom put this blush in my stocking Christmas before last & despite being used 5/7 days out of the week this one is still going strong. I love this shade because it goes with any eyeshadow or lip combo. It’s the perfect neutral!
- NARS Blush in ‘Luster’: This is a new to me color & it’s the only shade that has gotten me to stop using my CT blush on a daily basis. Other NARS blush favs: ‘deep throat’ & ‘sin’.
Step 8: Highlight
- Charlotte Tilbury Bar of Gold: This is a newer to me highlight, but I am loving it! It is the prettiest true gold color!
- Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in ‘Champagne Pop’: My favorite cheek highlight. When I need a highlight that can do no wrong, I always use my Champagne Pop. The color is perfection!
Step 9: Eye Primer
- MAC Paint Pot in Painterly: I apply this paint pot all over my eyelids (with my fingertips) pre eyeshadow. It covers any discoloration on the lid (mine are always red!), and allows your eyeshadow to go on without a hitch. No creasing & it lasts all day!
Step 10: Eyeshadow
- Tarte Tartelette in Bloom Palette: This is my so go palette for so many different things! Day, night, special occasion. This palette really has it all! It you’re into more warm tones, then their new Toasted Palette might be better for you!
- Huda Beauty Smokey Obsessions Palette: This little palette packs a punch y’all! I’ve used nearly every shade so many different ways. For under $30 it’s definitely worth it! This palette also comes in 3 other color ranges.
- Tarte Chrome Paint Shadow Pot in ‘Top Yacht’ & ‘Martini’: These are both new to me, but they are seriously gorgeous y’all! The finish is super shimmery, so I am not sure everyone would pack these on for an average Monday, but I’ve been lightly dusting these on my lids all week & I love the look! I use my fingers to apply btw.
Step 11: Eyeliner
- Sephora 12hr Wear Eyeliner in ‘Cocoa’: Eyeliner is like my least loved beauty buy. I don’t know why, but it just is. Maybe because I’m not the best putting it on 😜 , but regardless I don’t like to spend a lot of money on eyeliner. I’ve tried NARS, Stila, Marc Jacobs, Urban Decay and while they’re all fine, this $10 option from Sephora is my favorite. It comes in so many different shades too!
Step 12: Brow Pencil
- Benefit Precisely My Brow, Brow Pencil in ’03’: Brow products are other things that just don’t make me excited. I’ve always just used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz because it is so popular. And for good reason, it is a good product, but this one from Benefit is even better! The girl who does my brows used this on me & I was sold. The tip of this product is so small, that it looks so natural on. And it is quick to apply!
Step 13: Mascara
- Marc Jacobs Mascara: The Marc Jacobs team sent me this mascara, and I was pleasantly surprised! I don’t know why, but I’m always leery of high end mascaras. This one has totally changed my mind. It gives me volume & length!
- It Cosmetics Super Hero Mascara: If you’ve been following me for a while then you might have heard me rave about this mascara before. If I had to recommend one high end mascara, it’s this one. It’s so good, gives you volume & length!
Step 14: Setting Spray
- Urban Decay All Nighter Spray: After I finish my makeup, I’ll spray this all over my face. It helps keep my makeup in place all day long. Once I spray this on my face, I wait a few seconds for it to dry, then blot away any spray that has yet to dry. Keep in mind you might want to wait for your mascara to dry before you spray this. Or you can always apply it before your mascara to avoid any runny mascara.
Step 15: Lips
- Charlotte Tilbury Lip Liner in ‘Pillow Talk’: This best ‘your lips but better’ color! I love this for day & night!
- Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick in ‘Kim K. W.’: This color is such a pretty pinky nude. It is a little light for me at times, but if I layer the Pillow Talk Lip Liner underneath then I don’t have that issue.
- Marc Jacobs Lip Gloss in ‘Skin Deep’ or ‘Pretty Thing’: Y’all these are the best lip glosses! They’re so glossy, have the perfect amount of pigment & are comfy to wear!
And that’s a wrap! Like I mentioned before, don’t feel like you have to complete every step to get a finished makeup look. Some days I skip the highlight, eyeliner, eyeshadow, etc. But if I had the time, these are the full steps I take 😊
I would love to know your must have beauty products for your daily makeup routine!

I have to say I hardly find reviews on makeup bags and I’m LOVING the one in your pictures. Many of the products you wear are favorites of mine (like the Park Ave Princess collection by tarte!) and others I’ve been dying to try. I heard great things about Shape Tape and after this post its safe to say it wont be long before I’m trying it. Thanks for sharing your routine with us!
