Looking for a fun winter getaway?! The Greenbrier is just the place. I’m sharing our experience at the ever so charming resort.
Happy Wednesday y’all! I am so excited about sharing this post with y’all! As many of y’all know, we had to put our sweet Macie girl down a few weeks ago. It just so happened to happen right before Tyler & I were scheduled for a little getaway to The Greenbrier. Of course we were devastated, so we just weren’t sure if we were going to make the trip. After a lot of back & forth convos, we decided it would be good for us to get away for a few days. This was beyond true. This trip was just what we needed in our time of grief.
I will always remember our time at The Greenbrier. It is such a special place & I cannot wait to share our trip with y’all.
A little background on The Greenbrier, this stunning resort first welcomed guests in 1778. Located in the mountains of West Virginia, it made for a small little road trip for us. From Lexington it was about a 4.5 hour drive. I have been here a few times when I was little, but never as an adult. Tyler had never been, so it made for a great trip all around.
We arrived Wednesday around noon, and were immediately greeted by a glass of champagne upon check in. The best way to make a good impression 😉I remember my pasts trips to The Greenbrier very little, and have seen pictures of the resort, but pictures don’t really do it justice. It is the most charming resort. The decor is so fun, and y’all know I was obsessed with all of the pattern play in the decor. The southern charm was around every corner.
Once we got checked in we grabbed lunch at Draper’s to fuel up for our first activity! One thing that is great about The Greenbrier is that there is SO much to do year round, even in the winter. We jumpstarted our trip with the resort’s bunker tour. Fun fact, The Greenbrier was set up as a fallout shelter for congress in the Cold War. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but it was so fascinating to see how this secret was kept & how it was carved into the mountains of WV.
The rest of our first day consisted of tea, predinner cocktails, a fun dinner at Prime 44 West & time spent at the blackjack table! Yes The Greenbrier has a casino! Fun fact (that some of y’all know) I LOVE playing blackjack. It is one of my favorite things to do with Tyler. We don’t visit casinos often, so maybe that’s why I love it so much, but it was one of the reasons I was most excited about our visit to The Greenbrier. The resort also just opened a sports book. Tyler was so excited about this! If your fella is into sports gambling, this might be a selling point for him.
After a fun filled first day, we were so excited for our second day, which so happened to be Valentine’s Day. We started off with a yummy breakfast in the main dining hall (get the breakfast burrito btw), & then had the sweetest carriage ride with Charlie, The General & Woodrow. The carriage ride took us throughout the property, and was a relaxing way to see the sprawling grounds. It was such a romantic experience too. It might have been my favorite activity of the trip. We lucked out & had amazing weather, so after our ride Tyler & I took a relaxing walk & just enjoyed the weather.
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we had a couples massage Thursday afternoon that was incredible. It was a great way to continue to relax, and enjoy our time at the resort. We capped off our Valentine’s Day with a delicious dinner in the main dining room, cocktails at Cafe Carleton & more blackjack in the casino.
Sadly our stay was only two days, so we got on the road Friday morning, but we did not want to leave! It was the perfect winter getaway; the resort had a way of making you feel like you’re truly on a vacation with not a worry in the world. I am so grateful for our trip to The Greenbrier and the escape it provided us in a time of sadness. I cannot recommend a trip here enough. I am dying to come back in the warmer months too. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how kid friendly the resort is. There are so many activities that make it a great place for a family vacation.
