Happy Friday y’all! We have a fun filled weekend right around the corner, which includes our first wedding of the fall season. I can’t wait to celebrate one of my sorority sisters & her beau. Each season I always get DMs asking “what to wear to a wedding?”, so I thought it was the perfect time to tackle this question. I’ve compiled some of my favorite dresses, accessories & jackets for the occasion. Spoiler alert:: I’m wearing this one shoulder dress for the wedding on Saturday.
An obvious tip on deciding what to wear:: double check the invitation. Occasionally the dress code will be mentioned. It could also be mentioned on the couples wedding website. If the dress code isn’t listed anywhere there are a few tips I have for y’all when considering what to wear.
One tip I always like to suggest when thinking about what to wear to a wedding:: definitely take the venue into consideration. It sets the tone for the evening. If you’re not familiar with the venue, a light google should help you determine the vibe for the evening. If it’s on a farm, then you might be able to take a more casual approach. If it’s a church wedding, I always tend to go on the dressier side. This is also a great thing to consider when determining what shoe to wear. Skip the stilettos if it’s an outdoor wedding. There of course is always an exception, but I always think a dressy heel or pump is the way to go. Regardless of shoe choice, comfort is always key. Make sure you wear a pair you can dance the night away in! Another tip:: think of the bride & groom. Are they more formal or laid back? This can also set the tone for the dress code. And don’t forget to check the weather! If it is going to be a cooler evening, grab a nice jacket or pashmina to keep you warm.
While I know there are always exceptions, but here as a few fast & hard rules I have when deciding what I wear to a wedding:: limit (I like to avoid) cutouts in a dress, pass on the rompers (a dressy jumpsuit is fine)— shorts are a no no, and always decide on something you’ll be confident & comfortable in throughout the night (there is nothing worse that being uncomfortable at a wedding!).
