We’re having a baby y’all! I am so excited to finally share this news, and I can’t wait to take y’all along this journey. Today I’m sharing my first trimester recap.
This still just feels so surreal. I can hardly believe it, but I’m pregnant! AHH. This journey has felt like a rollercoaster & I know it is just getting started. With the first trimester behind me, I feel like I can look back objectively & say it wasn’t alllll that bad. I sure am glad it’s over though! ha!
I can’t decide just how much pregnancy, baby, family life I want to share over here just yet, so for now I’m just going with the flow. I’m kicking off the baby content with a first trimester Q&A, must have run down & more!
First Trimester Recap:
I did a Q&A on Instagram earlier this week, so I’ll be sharing the most asked questions to recap the first few months.
- How far along are you?
- 15 weeks! Due in December
- Will you be finding out the gender?
- Yes! We might or might not already know what we’re having 😉 I’ll be sharing soon!
- How are you feeling?
- I am feeling SO much better. Mentally, physically, emotionally, etc. The first few months were tolerable, but I had overwhelming exhaustion & experienced a constant dull wave of nausea. Thankfully I never got sick, but the “icky” feeling never really subsided.
- Any strange side effects?!
- Not that many, but definitely a few that were hard to ignore! I had major taste aversion at first. Nothing sounded good to eat with the exception of pb&js or cereal or fruit. On top of that I have to pee every hour. Oh & the terrible breakouts are just now getting better. We’re talking acne all over my chest, shoulders & back. TMI, but it’s the truth!
- How are you doing?
- This was such a sweet question to ask. I am good! We’ve wanted to start a family for a while, but the shock when I finally got a positive test didn’t wear off for quite some time. It has been the more surreal experience, but it is starting to feel real & I’m in a really good place right now.
- How I did you find out?
- I took a pregnancy test a few days before I was supposed to start & it was positive! I mentioned above, but I was SHOCKED it was positive. I took the test on March 19th, the first weekend of March Madness & a week before we were supposed to leave for Las Vegas 🤪
- Have you changed your skincare routine since finding out your were pregnant?
- Unfortunately, yes! ha! I had such a good thing going with this routine, but unfortunately I’ve had to put the retinol & some other favorites away for a while. I will share more on some products I’ve been using soon!
- How long were you all trying?
- We’d been trying for about 8 months.
- What did you use to track your cycle?
- I used the Flo app & the Clear Blue ovulation strips.
- How did you tell Tyler & family?
- I whipped out the positive pregnancy test to share the news with Tyler! He was also very shocked. His reaction was so pure & sweet. I will never forget it. As far as family goes, I feel like we had these grand plans to tell family & something always went wrong! Ha! Often times we just showed them our ultrasound.
- Will you share nursery inspo?
- Absolutely! I cannot wait to share the little bebe’s nursery!
- Was it difficult to keep the secret?
- Yes & no! Honestly, we just told our nearest & dearest as we saw them (well before 12 weeks). We were very cautious before we initially saw the doctor though, & I ordered a lot of soda waters + lime if we were out drinking with friends! Good thing they look identical to vodka sodas.
- Any fun baby purchases yet?
- I am surprised by this answer but not yet! After we found out the gender I ordered a few pieces of art for the nursery, but that’s been about it!
- Will you continue to workout?
- As long as I’m physically able, 100%! It is so important to me to continue to remain active. It helps me so much mentally, and I want to be as healthy as I can be for this little babe. I think our trainer was the second person I told after I told Tyler! We’ve made necessary modifications, and I’ve been going to the gym 4-5 times a week (just like before I was pregnant). But I make sure to listen to my body, and I rest when I need to rest or I’ll substitute a workout session for a walk when I am just not feeling it.
- How did you know you were ready for kids?
- This is such a tough question to answer, because honestly I don’t know. Are you ever really ready?! Idk. Tyler & I will have been married 5 years in August, and both turn(ed) 32 this year. We have a super strong foundation, and it just felt like our relationship was ready. & it also felt like one of those “well we’re not getting any younger” things. There is no right or wrong answer to this IMO.
- How did you know you wanted kids?
- I didn’t. I never grew up dreaming of becoming a mom. I never babysat, I was never really around kids until out niece & nephew. I always knew I wanted a house full of family for the holidays, that I wanted to have a relationship with a child like I had with my parents. I loved the life Tyler & I built so much, and I have grieved that life a little bit. I know I will continue to love our life, that it will be a love like I’ve never experienced, but that doesn’t make giving that up any easier. I never dreamt of being a mom, but I always knew I wanted to have a family. I don’t know if that makes any sense at all, but it’s the honest truth & one that is hard to share at times. I thank God everyday for this baby, and I cannot wait for our next adventure.
*I will wrap this up with a disclaimer. The struggles of fertility are not lost on me. My heart goes out to anyone who is longing & struggling to become a mom. On the other side of the coin, having a family is not for everyone & I 100% respect women who have made this choice.
First Trimester Must Haves:
This honestly isn’t anything riveting. Your body hasn’t experienced that many changes yet & being a first time mom I have no clue what I’m doing. Lol. But here are a few of my must haves:
- Find a doctor that you love. This is so important y’all. I had some trial & error to start this journey, but advocating for yourself & finding someone your comfortable with will make this journey so much more enjoyable.
- Pregnancy+ App: I really only use this app to keep track of how far along I am, otherwise I would never remember. HA!
- Saltines & Electrolytes: This is so silly, but were so necessary to get me through the constant wave of nausea.
- A water bottle: Drinking enough water is always important, but I felt like even more so now! A cute water bottle made it easier to consume all the h2o.
I loved wearing this fun Farm Rio dress for our announcement photos! I was on the hunt for a sweet white dress, but when I tried this on I was in love! I mean y’all know I love a good print & color. This just felt more me! This dress is amazing, pregnant or not. The quality is so so good. The fabric is a beautiful silky fabric with swiss dot, and I find the fit just so darn flattering. I am 5’2 so keep that in mind when it comes to length, but I got my normal size small & it fit great (with some room to grow into!). It has a smocked panel in the back to provide some stretch through the chest.
