AH! Better late than never, right?! This very belated Second Trimester Recap is one I’ve been dying to share, but kept getting put on the back burner. A lot has changed since this 1st trimester recap y’all. I’ll break down how I felt mentally & physically, notable things we did, my most used items & more!
How I felt during the 2nd trimester:
The rumors are true, the 2rd trimester is glorious! My energy snapped back around 14 weeks, & I honestly felt pretty normal for the first month or so. There were changes over the course of the 12 weeks, but it was overall an enjoyable few weeks!
Things did started to change physically between 16-20 weeks though! That month was a doozy y’all, I started to see the biggest change in my body & I started to physically feel pregnant. It wasn’t just this mental state of knowing I am pregnant, but I could see my belly growing, which was such a wild thing to experience. Jeans no longer fit, certain clothes no longer were comfortable to wear. Bring on the maternity jeans! & let me tell ya, things just got bigger from there! Towards the end it’s a chore to get out of bed, bend down to tie your shoes, exercise as normal, but you just keep on keepin’ on.
The positive mental shift in the second trimester far outweighed any physical limitations or changes. I touched on this briefly during a Q&A on Instagram after we announced we were pregnant, but the first few months were really difficult for me mentally. The shock, stress, anxiety, guilt of it all made it hard to appreciate the journey from time to time. But it was almost as a fog had been lifted going into my 2nd trimester, and I am so very grateful to be in a solid mental space over the past few months.
Notable Things we did During the 2nd Trimester:
- We found out we’re having a little GIRL!! We had the sweetest gender reveal with family. We found out with everyone else & it was such a fun surprise. I mean how many true surprises do you get in life?!
- Finished our registry:: We used Babylist & found it was so so easy to use. Don’t let us fool ya, we had no freaking clue what to add to the registry. We crowdsourced from friends, utilized the articles on Babylist & I even went through random registries on Babylist for ideas. LOL.
- Planned our Babymoon to Scottsdale:: I shared ALL about our trip here, it was truly magical & the perfect place for one last getaway before the little lady makes her appearance.
- Started the Nursery:: this was such a fun part of baby planning! Shipping & lead times are crazy, so TBD when it will all come together, but you can see our vision for her room here.
- Planned my baby shower: Well I didn’t, but my nearest & dearest did & it was such a special day celebrating Baby B. Pictures from it are seen here 😊
2nd Trimester Must Haves:
- Soma Cool Nights Sleep Shirts: These are my FAVORITE things to sleep in! They’re so soft & make getting up to pee a few times a night a little more tolerable.
- Barefoot Dreams Robe: I love the weight of this robe when lounging around the house at night or in the am.
- Lululemon Align Leggings & Biker Shorts: OBSESSED, lived in these, they’re the perfect pregnancy leggings. I wear them lounging, working, working out, running errands. I ended up sizing up in both & am so glad I did. The high waist covers the bump & I just cannot rave about them enough. Worth the $$ IMO.
- Aerie Ribbed Bralette: I was on the hunt for a good sports bra over the past few months & this “bralette” does the trick! I sized up to a large, it is stretchy, the fabric is soft, has removable cups & great coverage. I love this one because I can wear lounging around & when I work out.
- This trio of lotions: I share more about why I love these products in this post!
- Maternity Jeans: I had to just give in y’all. I thought I’d just go the dresses, leggings route, but jeans are just so easy. Not all are created equal, I much prefer the fully belly band. I shared two pairs I’ve been loving in this post.
- ALL THE SWEETS! My sweet tooth has been out of control.. That’s really the only craving I’ve had. Gimme all the pastries & chocolate
- CALM Gummies: Two side effects of my pregnancy– leg cramps & lack of sleep. I’d be able to get to sleep no problem, but I always wake up in the middle of the night to pee & then it’s hard to go back to bed. Magnesium was recommended to treat both, so I thought I’d kill two birds with one stone with these gummies! I take before bed & they’ve really helped with both.
- Maternity Shapewear: Let’s be honest, we’re past the point of sucking anything in, but I’ve always appreciated comfy shapewear with dresses. This maternity pair is great for smoothing everything out & providing more comfort (aka, preventing chafing 😂).
& that’s a wrap on the 2nd trimester recap! I’m officially 32 weeks today, and starting to feel all the emotions as we enter into the last few months of this pregnancy. T-8 weeks until we meet our little lady!
