My skin care routine had to get a major overhaul when I found out I was pregnant. You can see more about my AM Skincare routine pre pregnancy here, but I have been super pleased with the product swaps I made over the course of my pregnancy. I’m sharing my AM & PM routines + the products I used for breakouts.
*Disclaimer: do your own research & consult with your OB when it comes to “pregnancy safe” products.
AM Skincare Routine:
Revision Brightening Wash: I’ve been using this exclusively for almost a year & I love it. I find it works really well with my oily skin, & actually brightens my skin. I love that it works for my skin year round for me.
Skin by Blair Tonic: This is such a game changer for my skin. If there is one product you try from this blog post, it’s this. It’s totally taken the place of any toner I use & I always order as soon as I’m getting low so I’m not without. I use after I cleanse my face AM & PM, & Blair calls it a “facial in a bottle”. It’s a “gentle, anti-aging, and exfoliating toner containing a blend of acids to brighten, lighten, and tighten the skin. The formula combats fine lines/wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, black heads, acne, and melasma all while giving the skin a gorgeous glow.”
Revision Revox Line Relaxer: Pregnancy has me missing my Botox like woah. This is a great alternative if you’re missing your Botox while you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. I apply on my fine lines (under eyes, laugh lines around my mouth, bunny lines & forehead) in the am, let it dry & then continue with my skin care routine. I can’t do the benefits justice, but I’ve been using it daily for about 6 weeks & I really think it’s softened my fine lines!
Revision C+ Correcting Complex: Vitamin C is a must in any skin care routine, & this is a great option if you’re acne prone like myself. Ps. I love revision products but their products with this cap are such a pain! The caps never stay on! Hahah
Hyaluronic Acid Serum: I don’t use this every am, but this time of year & being pregnant has made my skin a bit more dry than usual. It’s a great affordable option to add some more moisture to the skin.
Origins Vitamin C Eye Cream: This is such a pretty product to wear under the eyes in the am. It brightens, moisturizes & adds just enough sheen.
SkinCeuticals Daily Moisture: I feel like this is the moisturizing equivalent to the eye cream above. I just love love love it. My gals at Prive recommended it for a pregnancy safe option & I don’t think I’ll give it up even after I have the little lady.
PM Pregnancy Skin Care Routine:
Skin by Blair Bakuchiol: This is a newish product that I’ve been really been impressed with! It’s another anti aging product that is trying to pick up the slack from the lack of retinol my skin had grown accustomed to 😂 Bakuchiol is a “Retinol-Alternative serum to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, and enhance the effects of retinol without irritating the skin. Pregnancy and nursing safe. “ You can also use in the AM & in tandem with a retinol.
Revision DEJ Eye Cream: I’m always indifferent about eye cream, but I’ve used several bottles of this & like it enough to repurchase 😂 It helps boost collagen & smooth fine lines.
CeraVe Hyaluronic Acid Serum: I try to remember to use this nightly because time of year & being pregnant has made my skin a bit more dry than usual. It’s a great affordable option to add some more moisture to the skin.
Revision DEJ Face Cream: This face cream is a great option for oily skin. It’s light enough, but does a really good job moisturizing the skin. Plus I am all for the anti aging, smoothing, brightening & plumping benefits.
Revision Youthfull Lip Replenisher: I always get so excited to put this on before bed! It works better than any lip balm or mask treatment I’ve ever used. I wake up & can still feel it on the lips. It’s very thick, so I typically don’t use it during the day. But I’ve gone through a few tubes & will continue to repurchase.
Pregnancy Skincare Favorites to Treat Acne:
The first trimester was not kind to my skin. I had a lot of acne flare ups! I struggled with acne in high school to the point where I had to use accutane for a bit, so having intense breakouts it sent me back into a spiral. It took me a while, but I found some products that worked really well treating my breakouts.
Dermalogica Daily Exfoliator: This has been a tried & true product in my skin care routine for years. It works really well to exfoliate the skin & really helps with acne. It does have a little bit of salicylic acid in it, but it is below the recommended threshold of “pregnancy safe”. I used to use it several times a week pre pregnancy, but I only pull out in times of emergency right now.
Bella B Foaming Face Wash: Tyler bought me a Bump Box subscription when I found out I was pregnant, & it comes monthly with all sorts of goodies! There is typically always a pregnancy safe skin care item in the box & this acne face wash came in one of the first boxes I received. It was perfect timing because the beginning of pregnancy wasn’t kind to my skin. Hahah.
Clindamycin: This was probably the biggest difference maker in my acne at the beginning of my pregnancy. I feel weird mentioning because you do need a rX for it, & I’m not a medical professional, but I want to be honest with y’all! My OB okayed this product, but said because it is an antibiotic to limit use if I could. Once my skin cleared up after the first trimester(ish) I stopped using.
